Fairmule
Fairmule House was a highly complex recladding project involving a multi-use building comprising commercial and residential units, constructed entirely from CLT timber. The project is the first of its kind in the UK and required the team to navigate extensive new fire-safety requirements introduced following the Grenfell tragedy, while maintaining the safety and amenity of residents and commercial occupiers throughout the works. The building was completely stripped back, including the removal of the existing green roofs, before the cladding could be replaced following the approval of planning and the necessary regulatory requirements.
With no established precedent for recladding a CLT building of this nature, the project required significant technical innovation and problem-solving. Our team developed and adapted new construction methodologies and procedures as previously unidentified challenges emerged, working closely with the relevant regulatory bodies to obtain the necessary approvals. The project demonstrates our ability to manage highly complex developments, develop practical solutions in uncharted technical and regulatory environments, and successfully deliver challenging projects while maintaining the operation of an occupied building.
